Abstract

1365571 Making abrading drums BUCKBEE MEARS CO 11 Oct 1972 [24 March 1972] 46803/72 Headings B3K and B3A An abrading drum 10 is produced from a metallic base material 11, having a plurality of randomly spaced irregular-shaped teeth 12 projecting therefrom, the teeth covering less than 10% of the area of the material. The cutting edges are formed by etching, after first placing etchant resist over the selected area of the material. The drum 10 is placed on a mandrel 30 which comprises a core 34 and a layer of rubber 35. In a modification, the mandrel (20), Fig. 6 (not shown), has end rims and an air gap (a) is provided between drum 10 and the mandrel. An apparatus 40, Fig. 7, for supporting the drum comprises a stand 41 a motor 42 for rotating the drum via a pulley drive and a pedal-operated brush 60, for cleaning the drum. Safety guards 52, 53 and 54 are provided.
