Abstract

1365485 Control of AC motors COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 5 May 1972 [18 May 1971] 15541/71 Heading H2J To ensure that a warning is given when a three-phase dynamo-electric machine having windings 1 is to be started, the machine is initially partially energized, current flowing only in lines 2 and 4. The current in line 4 passes through a timing device 8, which closes switch 9 after a predetermined period, and a warning device 7, e.g. a siren, satisfactory operation of which closes a switch 10. Switch 10 is operated centrifugally or alternatively by air pressure or suction. The closure of both switches 9 and 10 energizes a coil 11 which closes switches 5, 13 and 6, and the machine is fully energized on all phases. The closure of switch 6 short circuits the timer 8 and siren 7 which are rendered inoperative. The warning device may alternatively or additionally comprise a light. The machine may be in a coal mine, operated from a remote position.
