Abstract

1365135 Fluidized bed base plate INTERNATIONAL NICKEL CO OF CANADA Ltd 17 Nov 1971 [18 Nov 1970] 53387/71 Heading B1F [Also in Division F4] A fluidized bed reactor has a grate 21 covered by refractory material 23 in which gas distribution nozzles are mounted, each nozzle comprising an inlet 27 merging into a chamber 31 and having an upper outlet 34 formed by a cylindrical recess bounded by a cylindrical wall 35 and a transverse wall 36 which closes the lower end of the recess. Passages 32 in the wall 35 from ports through which the fluidizing gas passes substantially horizontally from the chamber 31 into the outlet for vertical flow therethrough into the material to be treated. The total cross-section of passages 32 amounts to no more than 60% of that of the outlet so that the gas velocity therein is correspondingly greater. By this means particles from the bed are prevented from passing through into the inlet 27.
