Abstract

1365036 Change-speed control VOITH GETRIEBE KG 27 Feb 1973 [29 Feb 1972] 9558/73 Heading F2D In an automatic transmission having hydraulically actuated friction elements for selecting different ratios, and control means for reducing the pressure of the hydraulic medium during ratio shifts, timing means is provided for each different ratio shift to determine the periods during which the pressure is reduced. In one embodiment, a hydraulic pump 10 supplies fluid to actuating pistons (not shown) for the friction elements through onoff valves 15 controlled by a device 14 governed by a gear selector lever (not shown) or by output speed and the setting of an engine fuel control 29. The reduction of pressure during ratio shifts is effected by an electromagnet 24 which acts on the spool of a pressure relief valve 20, or on its loading spring 22, and the duration of energization of the electromagnet is determined by a monostable multi-vibrator for each ratio shift, the multi-vibrators 12 and 23 being effective for shifts from first to second and second to third ratios, respectively, and the multi-vibrators 32, 21 being effective during downward shifts. One of these multi-vibrators may be used also for shifts between neutral and first and reverse, or additional multi-vibrators may be provided. The force applied by the electromagnet, and therefore the degree of pressure reduction achieved, is adjusted in accordance with the position of the fuel control 29 by signals fed to the multi-vibrators from a transducer 28 and amplifier 27. In a modification, the adjustment of the valve 25 to reduce pressure is effected by a hydraulic loading under the control of a further valve governed by the multi-vibrators, and the rate of restoration of normal pressure is controlled by a spring- loaded hydraulic accumulator discharging through an orifice.
