Abstract
1364780 Sintered composite metallic annular bodies FEDERAL-MOGUL CORP 11 May 1972 [14 June 1971] 22210/72 Heading C7D [Also in Divisions B3 and F2] A composite machine element 10 such as a bearing bush or race ring is made by forming an inner component briquette 18 of a first powdered metal with a generally frusto-conical external surface thereon, forming an outer component briquette 16 of a second powdered metal with a generally frusto-conical internal surface therein, sintering said components individually, heating them to a forging temperature, assembling them, and applying axial forging pressure sufficient to unite them in forged interlocking engagement. The said surfaces may have the same, or slightly different, degrees of taper. The said metals may be iron, and a manganesemolybdenum iron alloy. The manganesemolybdenum iron alloy may be S.A.E. 4600 alloy powder, or it may be nickel-free.
