Abstract

1364707 Pigment bonded polymers RANK XEROX Ltd 8 Nov 1971 [17 Nov 1970] 51794/71 Heading C3P [Also in Division G2] An electrophotographic developer comprises a dispersion in a carrier liquid of the product obtained by polymerizing a monomer of formula CH 2 = CR 1 -COOR 2 , wherein R 1 is hydrogen or C 1 -C 4 alkyl and R 2 is an unsaturated C n H 2n-1 or C n H 2n-3 group in the presence of a pigment, so that the polymer is bound to the surface of the pigment. The product is preferably washed with a polar solvent before use. The preferred pigment is carbon black. The carrier liquid exemplified is an isoparaffinic hydrocarbon fraction, which may also contain a charge regulating agent such as cobalt naphthenate. The exemplified monomers are oleyl acrylate, the citronellol ester of methacrylic acid and a mixture of the acrylates of oleyl alcohol and geraniol; many other long-chain esters are mentioned.
