Abstract

1364340 Shaped multicomponent catalysts CHEVRON RESEARCH CO 6 June 1972 26417/72 Heading B1E Shaped macroparticles of multicomponent catalysts are produced by forming an unwashed mass of gelatinous precipitates containing the catalyst components or their preceursors, converting the unwashed mass into shapeable macroparticles by partially drying the unwashed mass in a manner such as to obtain impure clustered particulate material with a water content of 55-83 wt. %, shaping the particulate material into shaped macroparticles, washing the shaped macroparticles to remove substantially all the impurity salts therefrom without causing the macroparticles substantially to lose their shape, and thereafter drying and calcining the shaped macroparticles. The shapeable marcoparticles may be formed simultaneously with the partial drying by stirring or the unwashed mass may be subdivided and then partially dried to give them. The gelatinous precipitates may comprise finelly divided hydrous oxides of at least two of Mg, Al, Si, Sn, Ti, Zr, Cu, Ag, Au, V. Mo, W, Cr, Mn, Re, Fe, Co, Ni, Pt, Pd, P, As or Sb, at least one of the hydrous oxides being convertible to a porous, high surface area, oxidic carrier on calcination.
