Abstract

1364256 Dual control vehicles INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO 22 June 1971 [6 July 1970] 29191/71 Heading B7H [Also in Division F2] A control circuit for a vehicle having front and rear driver stations 10, 12 and engines includes throttle and brake control valves 28, 36 and 26, 38 at each station and a selector valve 14 for connecting the valves of one station to a fluid pressure, preferably pneumatic, source 18, the arrangement being such that the brakes and either engine may be operated solely from either one of the stations. In a first position valve 14 connects valve 26, 28 to source 18 and exhausts lines 30, 32, 34 to valves 36, 38. With brake pedal 84 as shown fluid passes via lines 22, 42, check valve 46, which isolates the rear station brake valve, and line 48 to a cylinder 50 containing a spring-loaded piston 58, the fluid urging the piston against a spring 76 to release the braking means 72. Depression of the brake pedal 84 moves valve 26 to cut off fluid supply and exhaust line 42. Throttle valve 28 normally blocks fluid passage from source 18 to line 88, but depression thereof connects lines 24, 88 and fluid passes to a check valve 92, which isolates the second station, and through lines 102, 104, solenoid valves 106, 108 to cylinders 114 and 116. Pistons 118, 120 in cylinders 114, 116 are normally biased by springs 130, 132 to the idling piston, pistons 118, 120 being connected to engine speed controls 126, 128. Switches 138, 140, respectively for the front and rear engines are switched on in sequence. On turning switch 138 to the start position lines 146, 150 are actuated to operate solenoid 148 and ignition 152, solenoid 148 moving valve 108 to isolate line 112 from line 104 to prevent flooding of the rear engine whilst the front engine is started. Manual switch 158 in line 154 to the starter motor 156 is closed and then switch 138 is moved to the run position wherein solenoid 148 is deactivated and valve 108 reopened. Switch 140 is then operated to start the rear engine, during which valve 106 is closed in the same way as valve 108. With valves 108 and 106 closed fluid remains trapped in lines 110, 112, however, in a further embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) these valves are provided with exhaust paths to allow fluid to leave cylinders 114, 116 whilst the valves are closed.
