Abstract

1364171 Ladder scaffolding KOTTGEN & CIE GmbH 11 Feb 1972 [21 April 1971] 6417/72 Heading E1S Scaffolding comprises a pair of ladders 2 and a platform 3 extending horizontally therebetween and supportable at various heights thereon, the platform having at its ends guides 5 in which the ladder stringers are slidably received, the guides at each end of the platform supporting at least one swivellable arm 9 whose free end is formed as a pair of jaws conforming to the periphery of the ladder rungs 2a and is directed towards the rungs, the arm being operable by a hand lever 12 to press it into engagement with a selected rung and press the stringers firmly against the guides 5, the platform also having hooks 17 at its ends for engagement with eyes 16 on the lowermost rungs of the ladders. The lever is held in the position of securing by a catch, but in the event of accidental release the platform will fall only to the next rung because a spring loading the arm 9 urges it downwardly and inwardly when the lever is released. When the scaffolding is dismantled, the hooks 17 are engaged with the eyes 16 and the ladders are laid on top of the platform (Fig. 3, not shown). Wheels 18, 19 are provided on the platform and ladders as shown, the wheels 19 being swingably mounted to allow the ends of the stringers to rest on the floor in use. Preferably the pair of guides 5 at each end of the platform carries a rotatable rod on which the lever. 12 and a pair of arms 9 are secured.
