Abstract

1364158 Vacuum operated actuators M BEHR [trading as SUDDEUTSCHE KUHLERFABRIK JULIUS FR BEHR] 22 Nov 1972 [26 Nov 1971] 53894/72 Heading F1D Two vacuum servo capsules Fig. 1, are arranged so that the cylinder 1 of the upper capsule slides within the cylinder 3 of the lower capsule, thus the total displacement of a member 28 attached to the diaphragm closure 24 of the upper capsule is equal to the sum of the strokes of the two capsules. Vacuum is applied to the lower capsule through a port 6. This causes a diaphragm 16 to move down against a spring 18 taking with it the cylinder 1 and lower member 20 of the upper capsule. A vacuum port 5 for the upper capsule slides in a slot 3 during this movement. When vacuum is applied to the port 5 the diaphragm 15 descends taking the member 28 with it. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown) both vacuum ports are in the base of the lower capsule and one communicates with the upper capsule through a flexible hose.
