Abstract

1364114 Measuring linear movement C H P DENROCHE 27 Sept 1972 [29 Sept 1971] 45351/71 Heading G4H [Also in Division G1] Linear movement of a traveller 5 is transmitted by a taut wire loop 3 making half turns around pulleys 2, 4 to a rotary displacement encoder 1. The wire passes through slits in plates 10b, 11 for removing accretions. The position of idler pulley 4 is adjustable to tighten the wire loop, screws 12 holding the adjustment. The pulleys 2, 4 are ball-bearing mounted. The encoder may comprise a photocell and interrupter disc to give a succession of electric pulses as the traveller moves.
