Abstract

1363196 Electro-medical apparatus AMERICAN OPTICAL CORP 25 Aug 1972 [26 Aug 1971] 39708/72 Heading G1N In apparatus for monitoring a physiological function of a patient, an optical coupling means comprising a light-emitting diode 17 and a photo-transistor 19 is arranged between a first electronic means connected to the patient to provide a monitoring signal and a second electronic means, thereby to electrically isolate the first and second electronic means, the first electronic means being powered by a first source and a second source being provided for powering the first source and the second electronic means, the second source being electrically isolated from the first source by a D.C.-D.C. converter, Fig.2 (not shown). As shown, an e.c.g. signal is picked-up by electrodes 10, 11, 12 connected to the patient. The light-emitting diode 17 and the phototransistor 19 are preferably encapsulated together as depicted by block 28.
