Abstract

1362904 Gas-blast circuit-breakers BBC BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 30 March 1972 [2 April 1971] 15037/72 Heading H1N A gas-blast circuit-breaker has a contact member 8 moved alternately in opposite directions for its opening and closing operations by a gas-operated drive 9 which prepares for the next operation during each successive operation, a blast valve 12 to supply gas under pressure to the contacts 7, 8 and the drive 9 when open, an insulating rod 17 which permits the blast valve to open under gas pressure when released by a releasing device 23 . . . 25, and a system of levers 13 . . . 16, 10, 19 interconnecting the valve 12, rod 17 and drive 9 so that during each operation the drive 9 recloses the valve 12 and resets the releasing device 23 . . . 25. In the arrangement shown, the energization of a winding 25 causes the weakening of the field of a permanent magnet 24 to release an armature 23. The rod 17 with a crosshead 16 attached to it can now move up, so that the gas pressure acting on the blast valve 12 can open the valve 12. The contact 8 is now opened by pressure gas acting on the drive 9 which incorporates a slide valve which is moved into a position such as to reverse the flow of gas to the drive member for a subsequent reclosing operation. The contact 8 through linkage 10 turns a hollow shaft 11, which through a crank and a link 19 moves the central pivot of a two. armed lever 14 to close the blast valve 12 and to move the cross-head 16 down so that the armature 23 is again held by the magnet 23. The shaft 11 is connected at its lower end by linkage 26 to a rod 27 for indication and signalling the switch position. Rotation of the shaft is prevented by a locking pin 21 which is released by the cross-head 16 when the rod 17 is released by the device 23 . . . 25.
