136,289. Valentine, H. J. Dec. 18,1918. Addition to 123,858. Word-building, number-building, and like cards, strips, and apparatus.-Comprises improvements in the children's toy books described in the parent Specification. The card or cover a, Fig. 1, of the book is provided with rotatable disks e, f, g bearing alphabetical or numerical characters, certain of which are exposed through slits r. Portions of the disks may extend beyond the card or cover, so that the disks may be turned by the finger. In a modification, the characters are arranged on endless tapes or bands, j, k, m, Figs. 2 and 4, between cards n, o, the characters being exposed through a series of holes or a slot in the front card, whilst the back card is secured to the book cover; or the back or front card may be formed by the book cover. Thumb-holes for operating the tapes may be formed in the front card, or the latter may be made smaller than the back card. The tapes &c. may be mounted on a card hinged to the cover, the card being opened out for the child to form words on the device found in the book, and folded inside the book when not in use.
