1362413 Stereophonic systems INDUSTRIAL PATENT DEVELOPMENT CORP 13 Sept 1971 [13 Oct 1970 21 May 1971] 42492/71 Heading H4R In a decoder for a stereophonic system in which four signals Lf, Lr, Rf, Rr, are fed on to two channels by a matrix which provides the channel signals L<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>1</SP> where L<SP>1</SP>=K 1 (L f + XRf+Lr-WRr) and R<SP>1</SP>=K 2 (Bf+XLf+ Rr-WLr), K 1 , K 2 , X and W, are constants and X and W are between 0 and 1, the channel signals L<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>1</SP> are fed to a matrix which produces four signals where Y and Z are constants between 0 and 1. Fig. 1 shows a matrix which is switchable between the encode and decode functions, being in the encode state in Fig. 1 and the decode state in Fig. 2 (not shown). The matrix includes amplifiers 20, 22, 24, 26 which introduce no phase change and amplifiers 28 and 30 which are phase reversing. Resistors 40, 42, 60 and 62 provide for adjustment of the constants W, X, Y and Z.
