1362411 Substation apparatus T PARASKEVAKOS 16 June 1971 12479/71 Heading H4K Apparatus adapted to receive (dial) signals in the form of a series of pulse trains includes means to produce a start signal in response to the detection of a predetermined number of pulses in a train and means to recode and display or record the number of pulses in trains received after the start signal. In one embodiment (shown) dial type pulse trains received from a telephone line are amplified and shaped at 11 and applied to each of a set of gates G1 to G12, to a digit separation detector 46 and to a start signal detector 44. The start signal detector includes two binary counters (Fig. 3, not shown) one of which is stepped by a received pulse train while the other is stepped by clock pulses. If a start signal in the form of a train of twelve pulses is received the two counters are stepped simultaneously and on the count of eleven set start flip-flop 48 enabling a shift register 42. Digit separation detector 46 including a monostable multivibrator which during an interdigit pause releases, stepping a shift register 42 which enables gates G1 to G12 successively to gate successive pulse trains to decoder display devices DCV1 to DCV12. In other embodiments (Figs. 7 to 13, not shown) the digit separation detector and start signal detector control paper feed and print wheel control mechanisms of a printing device which receives the digit pulse trains in succession. The signals may be the directory number of a calling subscriber and/or data.
