Abstract

1362287 Pneumatic brake actuators AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS Ltd 13 Sept 1972 [15 Oct 1971] 47974/71 Heading F2F A pneumatic brake actuator comprises a movable wall of a chamber biased by resilient means to apply a brake and held from braking by gas pressure on the wall, the gas being introduced to the actuator through an inlet non-return valve 28, mounted in a wall of the actuator. A piston 15, biased by a spring 19 or a stack of Belleville washers, acts on vehicle brakes through a rod 20 and sleeve 26. The actuator is connected to a fluid pressure braking system via a port 30. If, however the system fails, the port 30 is disconnected and blanked off and gas is pumped into the actuator via the non-return valve 28, e.g. a tyre inflation valve to release the brakes if required, the gas coming from a hand pump, foot pump, a bottle of compressed gas or a vehicle spare wheel.
