Abstract

1361899 Graft polymer compositions MONSANTO CO 30 Nov 1972 [24 Jan 1972 25 Sept 1972] 55377/72 Heading C3G A flame-retardant polyblend comprises (A) a polymer of at least one monovinylidene aromatic monomer and, optionally, an ethylenically unsaturated nitrile monomer, the nitrile monomer constituting from 0 to 90% by weight of the polymer, blended with (B) a chloroprene rubber which is grafted with at least one monovinylidene aromatic monomer and, optionally, an ethylenically unsaturated nitrile monomer, the nitrile monomer constituting from 0 to 90% by weight of the total monomer grafted and (C) an inorganic compound which is Sb 2 O 3 , Bi 2 O 3 , MoO 3 , SnO 2 or WO 3 or a mixture of such compounds. Component (B) may comprise a first grafted rubber having a particle size of from 0À05 to 0À20 micron and a second grafted rubber having a particle size of from 0À4 to 1À5 micron. The polyblend may also contain a different grafted rubber, e.g. grafted polybutadiene, butadiene-styrene rubber or butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber. Examples are given in which component (A) is styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer, (B) is polychloroprene grafted with styrene and acrylonitrile, or two such grafted polychloroprenes, (C) is Sb 2 O 3 and polybutadiene grafted with styrene and acrylonitrile is included in the polyblend in some cases.
