Abstract

1361588 Cobalt base alloy prosthetic devices HOWMEDICA Inc 23 Jan 1973 3287/73 Heading C7A Prosthetic device for surgical implantation is made from an alloy comprising: - C 0À17-0À24% Cr 22-25% Fe 0À4-0À8% Mn 0À9-1À25% Mo 2À4-3% Ni 4À9-6% Si 0À5-1À2% and W 7-8% the balance being Co. The alloy in use is non- thrombotic and substantially non-reactive with animal fluids and tissue. The alloy may be used in the as cast or heat-treated state and is preferable treated with a reducing acid (e.g. HCl) prior to implantation. Tubes and heart valves are devices which are described.
