Abstract

1361177 Controlling body roll ROVER CO Ltd 9 July 1971 [10 April 1970] 17101/70 Heading B7D Roll control means in a vehicle suspension having transverse links 13, 14 and main suspension springs 12 comprise a double-acting hydraulic ram 24 which applies roll opposing forces to the links under the control of a pendulumactuated roll-sensing device and independently of the main suspension springs 12. Opposed chambers 29, 30 in the ram 24 are supplied by a pump 38 from a reservoir 37 according to the loads exerted on two variable pressure relief valves 27, 28 by a bar 34 connected to an inverted pendulum 31 which is sensitive to centrifugal acceleration and is provided with a damper 33. Coil, pneumatic, torsion bar or hydropneumatic springs may be used as the main suspension springs 12. In a modification, Fig. 1 (not shown), two rams are respectively connected to the lower link 14 of each wheel 11. In another embodiment, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown), respective rams associated with the suspension means at each end of a vehicle are supplied by a common valve actuated by a pendulum which is secured to one part of a rotary damper and connected through a leaf spring to the other part of the damper, this other part being rotatably mounted on the vehicle body and linked to position feedback means for sensing angular displacement of the body relative to the wheels.
