Abstract

1361079 Capacitors IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 10 Oct 1972 [22 Oct 1971] 49116/71 Heading H1M In a capacitor at least one electrode comprises a metallized thermoplastic film having a multiplicity of projections on at least one surface and extending beyond the surface to a height such that the metallized film has a dynamic coefficient of friction as measured by the moving sledge method not exceeding 0.7. The height of the projections may be 1 to 10 microns. The projections may be formed by embossing or, in the case of a heat-set film, by selective heat-shrinking. As shown the projections comprise parallel flutes or ridges 25, 26. They may alternatively be hemispherical (Fig. 3, not shown). The film is preferably biaxially oriented polypropylene, but may be polycarbonate, polyamide, polyester or polyolefin. The electrode may be Al, Zn, Ag, Au, Ni vapour deposited after the projections have been formed. A wound capacitor may be impregnated with liquids such as mineral oil, castor oil, cottonseed oil, silicone oil and polybutene, or gases such as nitrogen or sulphur hexafluoride.
