Abstract

1360429 CRT displays SANDERS ASSOCIATES Inc 30 Sept 1971 [2 Oct 1970] 45659/71 Heading H4T Line drawings may be made on a CRT screen by the use of a graphics keyboard (Fig. 1) having keys 12 for entering into a digital store data representing successive line segments, each segment being a vector normally displayed as a line continuation of previously-entered segments. Further keys 13a, 14a, 16 control vector length (one or two units), vector blanking, and broken-line display respectively, and a key 15a enables transfer of control between the graphics keyboard and an alphanumeric keyboard 11a. This latter has, in addition to alphanumeric character keys, positioning keys (tabulating keys vt, ht, carriage return cr and home h) which are used for positioning alpha display and the start of line drawing. Alphanumeric characters are traced by selective unblanking of appropriate ones of a set of strokes. Data words are held in a circulating refresh store and pass via gates controlled by a bi-stable holding a mode control bit to a vector decoder or alpha decoder for subsequent generation of the necessary ramp voltages for addition to positioning voltages from A/D converters. Recognition of a mode change signal switches the mode control bit. The necessary logic circuits are described with the aid of schematic diagrams.
