1358467 Nitro-imidazoles F HOFFMANNLA ROCHE & CO AG 1 Dec 1972 [3 Dec 1971] 55610/72 Heading C2C Novel compounds (I) (including salts thereof) wherein R 1 represents a C 1 to C 5 alkyl, hydroxy- (C 1 to C 5 alkyl) or (C 1 to C 5 alkylcarbonyloxy). (C 1 to C 5 alkyl) group, R 2 represents a hydrogen atom or a C 1 to C 5 alkyl group and R 3 represents a C 1 to C 5 alkyl group or R 2 and R 3 together with the carbon atom to which they are attached represent a 6-membered alicyclic ring, are made by reacting compounds (II) with R 2 R 3 CO (or an acetal or ketal thereof) and, if desired, esterifying a product obtained. Pharmaceutical preparations showing activity against protozoa, especially Entamoeba histolytica, Trichomonas vaginalis, Trypanosoma cruzi and Trypanosoma rhodesiense contain (I) as active ingredient. Administration may be enterally.
