Abstract

1358203 Derivatives of diphenylalkanol BEECHAM GROUP Ltd 8 Jan 1973 [7 Jan 1972] 790/72 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of Formula II wherein R is a -CHO or -COCH 3 group or a -CH 2 OH group or an acyl or ether derivative thereof; R 1 is a hydrogen atom or a C 1-6 alkyl group or an aryl group; R 2 is a C 1-6 alkyl group; R 3 and R 4 are each either a hydrogen or halogen atom or a hydroxyl, C 1-6 alkyl or alkoxy group; and X-X is either CH-CH or C=C and hydrates thereof. These compounds may be obtained by reducing in one or more steps an acid of Formula IV wherein R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 are the same as above, or an ester thereof, and thereafter optionally acylating or alkylating. The preparation of intermediate compound IV is given in Specification 1,257,266.
