Abstract
135,819. Elektro-Osmose Akt.-Ges. (Graf Schwerin Ges.). Oct. 20, 1917. [Convention date]. Electric endosmose. -Apparatus for removing liquid from animal. vegetable, or mineral materials comprises electrode plates 1 recessed on both sides to form the cells. In one construction, two parallel cathodes 10, 11 of perforated metal are spaced from each other and from the recessed anodes 1 by three frames 12, 13, and may be covered by filter cloth. Water is led off from the space between the cathode plates by ports 8. Inlet passages 3 and ducts 4 in the thick edges of the anodes may be lined with insulating-material. In another construction, the cathodes have corrugated surfaces over which is stretched filter cloth or wire fabric; the water escapes along the grooves to outlet channels in the edges of the plates. Cast iron is a suitable, electrode material; the active anode surfaces may be coated with lead.
