1358080 Polyester compositions CELANESE CORP 29 June 1971 [29 June 1970] 30299/71 Heading C3R Moulding compositions having flame retardant properties comprise a melt blend of polypropylene terephthalate or polybutylene terephthalate having an intrinsic viscosity of 0À2-1À2 decilitres per gram with up to 30% of its weight of a polyphosphonate or poly- (phosphonate-phosphate) copolymer of the formula in which R<SP>1</SP> is hydroxy or an alkoxy, aryloxy, haloalkoxy, haloaryloxy, hydroxyalkoxy or hydroxyaryloxy radical having up to 20 carbon atoms, R<SP>2</SP> is hydrogen or an alkyl, aryl, haloalkyl or haloaryl radical having up to 20 carbon atoms, R<SP>3</SP> is an alkyl, aryl, haloalkyl or haloaryl radical having up to 20 carbon atoms, Ar<SP>1</SP> and Ar<SP>2</SP> are divalent arylene or haloarylene radicals each having up to 20 carbon atoms, Z<SP>1</SP> is oxygen or sulphur, Z<SP>2</SP> is hydrogen or q is an integer of at least 1, r is 0 or an integer of at least 1 and x is an integer greater than one, and 2-60% of the total weight of the composition of a reinforcing agent, e.g. glass fibres, asbestos, cellulosic fibres, cotton fabric, paper or metallic powders. In examples the compositions comprise polybutylene terephthalate, poly - (m - phenylene phenyl phosphonate) or poly - [(m - phenylene phenyl phosphonate)]- 4 [(m - phenylene phenyl phosphate)] and glass fibres.
