Abstract

1357943 Hairsetting apparatus BRISTOLMYERS CO 8 Sept 1971 [9 Sept 1970] 41885/71 Heading A4V A hair setter comprises means for heating rollers and means for spraying one or more selected rollers with atomized, dispensed or vaporized liquid. A roller 2 which has been heated is placed in a cup 5. As the roller is pressed, the cup 5 is pushed down tripping a pressure sensitive switch 7 which actuates a vacuum pump 6. The liquid is drawn from a reservoir 8 through a passage 5a to nozzles 9 from which the spray impinges on the roller. When the pressure on the roller is removed the cup 5 is returned to its normal position by a spring or other means. In a modification the roller is placed on a central post in the cup. The spray nozzles are directed downwardly or at an angle to the axis of the roller causing it to rotate on the post during spraying. The wall of the cup extends above the level of the casing of the chamber and the pump is activated by a downward pressure on the wall. In a further modification the cup is fixed and downward pressure on the support post as the roller is pushed on to it operates the switch for the spray mechanism. In another modification both the cup and post are fixed and the nozzles which are at two levels within the cup are supplied with liquid by a manually operated pump. The cup may form part of or be used with the apparatus in which the rollers are heated. Atomized liquid may be supplied from a chamber containing a pressurized liquid and a carrier gas.
