Abstract
1357766 Supported ziegler catalyst BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 10 Dec 1971 [12 Dec 1970] 57439/71 Heading C3P A catalyst for polymerizing olefins (e.g. ethylene) comprises (a) a powdered carrier of meerschaum (sepiolite) where X is 0À01 to 3 having a particle size of 0À1 to 2000 Á (b) a chloride, oxychloride or alkoxychloride of vanadium, titanium or zirconium and (c) a saturated alkyl, saturated alkoxy alkyl or saturated alkyl halides of aluminium magnesium or zinc in which the weight ratio of (a) to the metal of (b) is 100 : 0À1 to 100 : 10 and the atomic ratio of the metal of (b) to the metal of (c) is 100 : 1 to 1 : 10 in which (b) and (c) are reacted with (a). In the example meerschaum in which X = 3 in the above formula is reacted with TiCl 4 and the product is added to a solution of triethylaluminium in hexane to form a catalyst useful for the polymerization of ethylene.
