Abstract
1357400 Magnetic heads INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 3 Nov 1971 51029/71 Heading G5R A multi-element head assembly 10 comprises a magnetic yoke underlay portion 12, e.g. a polished ferrite substrate or an alloy film on glass, a series of conductive strips 17 (Fig. 2) each having four terminal connections 13, 14, 15, 16 such as the film strips shown (Fig. 1), and each having yoke overlay/closure portions 18, 19 whereby magnetic circuits with gaps 20 are formed around each strip 17. In operation, "write current" is passed through strips 17 via the outer terminals 13, 16 so that each head element 11 produces a track width of magnitude d w , whereas in reading, connection is made to each set of inner terminals 14, 15, and the effective reading width is d r . Cross-talk due to faulty positioning of the head assembly when reading a record is thus reduced.
