Abstract

1356851 Isocyanate / uretonimine compositions IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 30 May 1972 [11 June 1971] 27442/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] The invention comprises a tolylene diisocyanate composition containing from 3 to 10% by weight of uretonimine groups. The composition may be prepared by converting part of the isocyanate content of the tolylene diisocyanate to carbodiimide groups by heating in the presence of a catalyst, for example an organic phosphate, phosphonate, phosphoramide, phosphonamide or triarylamidophosphate, and allowing the oarbodiimide groups to react with a further portion of the isocyanate to form uretonimine groups. The compositions of the invention may be used in the preparation of polyurethane foams.
