Abstract

1356827 Washing and softening compositions HENKEL & CIE GmbH 30 Sept 1971 [1 Oct 1970 16 April 1971 26 July 1971] 45466/71 Heading D1P [Also in Division C5] Textiles, e.g. cotton, linen, wool, polyamide, polyester, polyacrylonitrile and polyurethane fabrics, are washed and softened and rendered antistatic at a temperature of 20-100‹C in a washing bath containing the following:-(a) 0.2-1.5g/litre of an anionic surface active sulphonate, sulphate or a soap and, optionally, a non-ionic or amphoteric surface active compound, (b) 0.05-1.2 g/litre of an aliphatic N-monosubstituted-1, 3-propane diamine as softener having 10-24C in the aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, the amount of surfactant being the same as or greater than the amount of softener, (c) 0.2-6.0 g/litre of a builder substance, including any bleaching component, which may be alkaline reacting, and (d) 0-0.5 g/litre of dirt carriers, foam regulating substances, enzymes, brighteners, antimicrobial substances, perfumes and/or dyes. Compositions for addition to the bath may be formulated as liquids, granules pastes or powders. Specified non-surface active foam inhibitors are optionally chlorine-containing N-alkylated aminotriazines which may contain alkylene glycol ether chains, paraffins and halogenated paraffins; C 18- C 40 ketones and aliphatic carboxylic acid esters with at least 18C in the acid or alcohol portion. Specified builder salts are bicarbonates, carbonates, borates, silicates, ortho phosphates, pyrohosphates, metaphosphates and sulphates of the alkali metals, alkali metal salts of non-surface active aryl sulphonic acids, sulphoacetic acid, sulphobenzoic acid, sulphodicarboxylic acids, acetic acid, lactic acid, citric acid, tartaric acid and high molecular weight polycarboxylic acids e.g. polymerisates of maleic, fumaric, acrylic, methacrylic, itaconic, mesaconic, aconitic, methylene malonic and citraconic acid and copolymers thereof with other ethylenic compounds and organic complex-forming substances e.g. nitrilo triacetic acid, EDTA, N- hydroxyethyl ethylene diamine triacetic acid polyalkylene-polyamine-N-polycarboxylic acids di and poly phosphonic acids, and polyaldehydo- and polyhydroxy-carboxylic acids. Specified dirt carriers are salts of polymeric carboxylic acids, glue, gelatine, salts of ether carboxylic acids or ether sulphonic acids of starch or cellulose or salts of acid sulphuric acid esters of cellulose or starch, polyvinyl pyrrolidorie and water-soluble polyamides. Percompounds e.g. perborates and peroxyhydrates of polyphosphates and carbonates may be incorporated. Numerous brighteners of stilbene, pyrazoline, carbo styril, benzimidazoyll or benzoxazolyl ethylene, benzoxazolyl thiophene and coumarin type are specified.
