Abstract
1356718 Battery charge indicators DAIMLER-BENZ AG 6 Oct 1972 [9 Oct 1971] 46284/72 Heading H1B- [Also in Division G1] A state of charge warning device in a battery comprises a hydrometer float 8 in a housing 2 which as shown is located outside the battery case 1 and communicates with the battery interior through openings, float 8 co-operating with a contactless control device to initiate a warning signal when it sinks to a level corresponding to a critical electrolyte density. As shown, iron armature core 10 is embedded in shank 9 of float 8, and the critical electrolyte density is indicated by the inductance charge when core 10 penetrates a solenoid coil 6. The coil may form part of an oscillatory circuit (Fig. lb, not shown) whereby a resonance signal initiates an acoustic and/or visual warning signal in an indicating device. Alternatively (Figs. 2a to 2c, not shown) the shank may interrupt a light ray directed on to a light-responsive receiving device. The circuit may include a time-delay element.
