1356594 Optical projection apparatus EASTMAN KODAK CO 27 May 1971 [2 June 1970] 17630/71 Heading G2J A microfiche reader includes a picture gate 156 to which a microfiche card 36 can be supplied from either chamber 26 or 28 via chamber 40 and means for aligning a selected image thereon with the optical axis. As shown in Fig.3, microfiche cards are arranged in stacks in the chambers 26, 28 by means of pushers 46, 44 and central partition 48. At the entrance to the chambers 26, 28 rollers 60, 62 are driven constantly in one direction and reversible roller 58 drives idler rollers 64, 66. As shown in Fig.3, a card 36 has been withdrawn from chamber 26 whereby the rollers 58, 62 by virtue of their directions of rotation strip only one card at a time from the chamber. The card 36 may pass from the chamber 40 to the picture gate 156 if the rollers 150, 152 are rotated to so permit it or it may pass to the chamber 28 when the rollers 58, 60 nip it and card deflectors 52, 54 guide it. The card deflectors 52, 54 are pivoted into the take up chamber 28 from beneath the partition 48 and the rollers 64, 66 act as guides. Reversal of the roles of supply and take up chambers requires the movement of the deflectors 52, 54 and reversal of roller 58 so that it strips with roller 60 and nips with roller 62. As shown in Fig.10 the rollers 150, 152 are driven by motor 158 via pulley 164 which can be connected to the shaft L by clutch C3. Mounted on shaft T are cams 168, 172, 174, and shafts T, L are connected by clutch C4. The rollers 150, 152 may be rotated to permit a card to enter the picture gate 156. When its leading edge is sensed solenoid SOL-1 is de-energized and cam follower 182 withdrawn and clutch C4 activated to couple shafts T, L. The apparatus shown is for use with a microfiche card having two rows of four images so that when the cams 172, 174 open the switches M1, M5, motor 158 stops, clutch C3 is disengaged and SOL-1 energized so that follower 182 exactly aligns the microfiche by resting in the detent 1 of the cam 168. To project a selected image one of eight control buttons is pressed and the carriage 202 carrying the card is raised or lowered by means of eccentric 194 to align the correct row of four images. This movement is terminated by the closure of switches S11 or S12. The solenoid SOL-1 is again de-energized and the shafts T, L rotated until appropriate switch M1-8 is opened, the follower 182 again providing the final precise alignment.
