Abstract

1356012 Filters for analysis of tobacco smoke IMPERIAL GROUP Ltd 16 May 1972 [9 June 1971] 19558/71 Heading BIT Tobacco smoke is filtered for analysis by means of a filter disc 13 clamped in a holder comprising an outer component 10 and an inner component 11 which are made of resilient material and are mated together by forcing three circumferentially-spaced, wedge-shaped internal projections. 22 on component 10 over the annular inclined surface 24 of component 11. An upper annular inclined surface 25 of component 11 bears against O-ring seal 26 and holds the periphery of the filter disc 13 against the annular shoulder 21 of component 10. The components 10 and 11 are suitably mouldings of polycarbonate resin. A cigarette (or cigar) 15 is inserted in a central hole 14 in component 10, the wrapper of the cigarette being gently held by the flexible lips of silicone rubber rings 16 which are housed in cap 17. The exhaust duct 23 of the filter chamber is connected to the puffing system of a smoking machine.
