Abstract

1355878 Electro-photography XEROX CORP 25 June 1971 [29 June 1970 (2)] 29917/71 Headings G2A and G2H A copier with transparent platen 15 has a light-proof pivotable cover 21 across the bottom of which is clamped a stretched diaphragm member 53 of elastomeric material, the effective area of the diaphragm member being surrounded by an annular member 63 of elastomeric material and upward stretching of the diaphragm being limited by members 55. The diaphragm member may be 20-30 mils thick and may be stretched 3-6%. The cover is held in the open position by the action of a spring at an angle of 50-80 degrees to the horizontal. It is held in the closed position by the engagement of a latch member 45 with a locking member (47) Fig. 2, (not shown) releasable automatically at the end of copying or by pressing a release button 75 (effective only before commencement of copying or after pressing a stop button 81). In another form Figs. 6 and 7, (not shown), the cover has a pair of hook members releasably held within the copier, release of the hook members also effecting release of latch member 45.
