The strip may be passed continuously over the surface of a bath of electrolyte, masking members preventing contact between the edges of the strip and the electrolyte Figs. 1 and 2, (not shown), or may be passed about a cell Fig. 3 whose side walls are formed by two circular coaxial discs 10, the edges of the strip 16 mating against shoulders 17 which extend around the periphery of the discs 10, to thereby produce an electrolyte containing cavity 19 in which counter-electrodes 13 are positioned and mask the edges of the strip from electro-plating.
