Abstract

1354238 Oxidizing effluents DU PONT OF CANADA Ltd 27 April 1972 [28 April 1971] 19576/72 Heading C1C Effluents containing carbonaceous and nitrogenous matter are oxidized at at least 300‹ C. by treatment with an oxidizing agent consisting of nitric acid with or without oxygen (e.g. air). The nitric acid is used in an amount of 10- 100% of the stoichiometric amount required for the oxidation of the carbonaceous matter. The amount of oxidizing agent used is that which can provide substantially complete oxidation of the carbonaceous matter. Sulphuric acid may be used in the treatment. The treatment may be carried out at 1500-3500 p.s.i.g.
