Abstract

1353930 Rotary disc filters PETERSON FILTERS & ENG CO 18 June 1971 28603/71 Heading B1D The central rotary shaft of a disc filter comprises a metal or plastics pipe 15a enclosing a plurality of separate filtrate tubes 23, each communicating with one or more axially aligned sectoral filter elements (22), which make up the discs. Each tube 23 is welded to pipe 15a at 32 and is of rectangular section. A curved casting 17 delivers filtrate from element (22) into the tube 23, directing it towards the nearest outlet end thereof. If a rotary outlet valve is fitted at both ends of the shaft, then castings 17 are suitably oriented (Fig. 1, not shown). Castings 17 extend past welds 32 to minimise erosion thereof, and the floors of tubes 23 are protected by linings 34. Apart from castings 17, the shaft is made up of commercially available pipe and tube sections. Castings 17 are secured to pipe 15a as shown in Fig. 4 by clamping nuts 36x and rods 37 which hold elements (22) in place, so that castings 17 are replaceable when worn. The ends of pipe 15a are flanged and bolted to connecting members (16 and 16a) which rotate against fixed valves (26, 27) which connect successive sectors to suction and reverse flow gas as the discs rotate through a slurry bath. The valves present multiple fixed connections, some of which may be plugged if not required. Erosion of the valve(s) and conduits is minimised by conduits widening downstream.
