1353107 Controlling movable parts of a lathe MANUTAR SA 23 Nov 1971 [3 Dec 1970] 54454/71 Headings B3B and B3T In a machine tool such as a lathe having at least one displaceable slide, the stroke and traversing speed of the slide is controlled by cam means which effects actuation of intermediate means to effect movement of the slide(s), the apparatus for controlling the slide(s) movement comprising a shuttle member 9 on which are mounted adjustable cam elements 8 each of the elements having an inclined surface which is co-operable with a finger 13, which in turn operates a control valve to effect movement of the respective machine slide, the inclination of the inclined surface and the height of the element on the shuttle determining the speed of travel and length of stroke of the slide respectively. The displacement of the shuttle 9 along the lathe bed is effected by a rotary screw 10 the shuttle being guided and supported on rails 12 and 11 respectively, driving connection between the shuttle and the screw being by way of a half nut 20. The return movement of the shuttle is effected by a counterweight 17 when the half nut is disengaged from the screw 10. The disengagement is effected by actuation of the rod mechanism 26, 27, 28 which by links 25 laterally displaces the supporting rail 11 to lower the shuttle on to the guide rail 12 which releases the half nut from the screw 10. The shuttle may also carry stop member 15 in a separate array which by co-operation with switches 16 effects operation of other auxiliary parts of the lathe.
