Abstract

1352978 Roasting chrome ore NIPPON DENKO CO Ltd 3 March 1972 [22 Sept 1971] 10083/72 Heading C1A [Also in Division F4] Alkali chromates are prepared by alkali oxidizing roasting of chrome ore in a rotary kiln wherein the oxidizing gas, having an elevated temp. and comprising a fuel and excess air, is introduced both into one end and into an intermediate region of the kiln. The oxidizing gas may be introduced into an elongated rotary counter-current kiln 1 by means of a main burner 2 and sub-burners projecting into the kiln at 6 and 6<SP>1</SP>, thereby maintaining the temp. at 1000-1200‹ C. in the lower half of the kiln. The fuel may be heavy oil.
