Abstract
1349882 Cutting probe tip H T DINKELKAMP and N G DOUVAS 4 Jan 1971 [5 Jan 1970] 38577/73 Divided out of 1349881 Heading ASR The subject matter of this specification is included in the parent Specification 1349881 but the claims are directed to a cutting probe tip suitable for performing cataract surgery, comprising two concentric tubes 70 and 46 with an annular passageway therebetween the inner tube 46 being rotatable relative to the outer tube, and the two tubes having adjacent cutting elements arranged to cut layers or slices of irrigated cataractous tissue from the lens of an eye. The cutting elements 80 and 81 may be positioned across the ends of the respective tubes and closely adjusted to produce an effective cutting action. The outer tube 70 may have an inturned end to restrict access to the annular passage, Fig. 6 (not shown). In an alternative embodiment Fig. 7, (not shown), the end of the outer tube is closed and orifices (90) are formed in the end portion of the outer tube. The end of the inner tube is notched and a cutting edge (92) of the notched portion interacts with the orifices to provide the cutting action. Reference has been directed by the comptroller to Specification 1286339.
