Abstract

1349737 Topping vegetables SORTEXBRETTEN Ltd 19 April 1971 [9 Dec 1969 11 March 1970] 60058/69 and 11654/70 Heading A4C [Also in Division B8] Vegetables, e.g. carrots are fed along a conveyer 7 to a carrot topping station which consists of blades 19a, 19b mounted fast on a wall 55a and a further blade 20 attached to a rotatably mounted spindle 21. When a carrot 66 has moved on the conveyer 7 to a position in which its crown 66a has just passed between the blades 19a, 19b, the blade 20 is swept across the conveyer 7 thus sweeping the carrot sideways off the conveyer 7 and across one of the blades 19a, 19b whereby the carrot crown 66a is sliced off. The drive mechanism for the blade 20 comprises an hydraulic cylinder (56), Fig.12 (not shown), connected to the spindle 21, said cylinder being actuated to cause the rotation of the spindle 21 and blade 20 when a carrot engages a trigger (61), Fig.9 (not shown), located in the path of the carrot on the approach side of the topping station.
