Abstract
1349187 Tool changers EX-CELL-O CORP 19 April 1971 [20 March 1970] 24879/71 Heading B3B [Also in Division G3] A method of tool selection comprises placing a plurality of tools having code numbers sequentially in a tool load position 26 on a conveyer 12 having a plurality of tool positions 24 to thereby load the conveyer; setting the code numbers of the tools on identification switches operably associated with each of the tool positions on the conveyers; moving the conveyer to move the tool positions 24 sequentially through a tool pick-up position 30 and sequentially interrogating by means of a selector switch 26 driven synchronously with the conveyer the identification switches as the tool positions 24 pass the pick-up position 30; and stopping movement of the conveyer when the identification switch associated with a desired tool is interrogated. The switches comprise manually settable thumb wheel switches, e.g. (72) (Fig. 2, not shown) having digits set in a binary code. The switches, one for each tool position, are connected to contacts of a first rotary selector switch 36 so that each one is interrogated sequentially. A second rotary selector switch 38 illuminates lights, e.g. (124) in sequence to identify the switch to be set when a tool is placed in a tool position at the tool load position 26. The selector switches are driven in synchronism with the conveyer 12 at one revolution per revolution of the conveyer, and a motor control cam 136 is driven at one revolution per tool position movement of the conveyer. The drive motor 14 is initially slowed down before final positioning of a tool at pick-up position 30.
