Abstract
1347347 Electric analogue calculating SYBRON CORP 9 July 1971 [27 Aug 1970] 32372/71 Heading G4G [Also in Division G1] A circuit for dividing analogue electrical signals comprises a differential amplifier 20 providing the difference between the denominator and a sawtooth wave which is used to switch alternately FETs 9, 12 in a negative feedback loop of an amplifier 10 depending on whether the difference is positive or negative, the time for each polarity depends on the magnitude of the denominator and the result of so switching the feedback path is that the average gain of amplifier 10 is inversely proportional to the denominator. Since the numerator is the input of amplifier 10, the output e 0 is proportional to the desired quotient. An amplifier 30 and reference voltage at 33 detect when the denominator is zero and FET 8 is then made to conduct. The components are chosen to give a fixed output when the denominator is zero thereby avoiding the spurious results which would otherwise result.
