Abstract
1347020 Fermentation process for producing Levorin LENINGRADKSY NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT ANTIBIOTIKOV 10 March 1971 6502/71 Heading C2A In a process for the production of Levorin, which is a mycocidal antibiotic of the polyene series, by fermentation, a culture of Actinomyces levoris is grown concurrently with a yeast, or yeast-like fungus of the genera Candida, Saccharomyces or Monilia in a nutrient medium containing assimilable sources of carbon, nitrogen and mineral salts. The Actimomycetes levoris may be inoculated into a medium in which the yeast or yeast-like fungus is already growing, or the two may be inoculated simultaneously into the nutrient medium. The nutrient medium may have a composition maize meal, -20 g.; soya meal-10 g; hydrol (a starch molasses residue)-10 g; NaCl-5 g.; CaCO 3 -1 g; water up to one litre. The yeast of yeast-like fungus may be introduced into the nutrient medium in an amount of 1-4 vol. per cent, and may be grown on the medium for 24-48 hours at 27- 28 C. before the Actinomyces levaris is introduced. The cultivation of the Actinomyces levaris may be effected for 96-120 hrs. at 27-28 C. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 1,070,799 and 1,254,212.
