1345991 Thiocolchicine derivatives ROUSSEL UCLAF 5 May 1972 21143/72 Heading C2C The invention comprises a process for making 3 - glucos - 2 - yl - 3 - demethyl - thiocolchicine and/or novel 2-glucos-2-yl-2-demethyl-thiocolchicine (I) by reacting thiocolchicine with boron tribromide to give a mixture of novel 1,2-bisdemethyl thiocolchicine and, preponderantly, novel 2,3 - bis - demethyl thiocolchicine, which mixture is reacted with acetobromoglucose in the presence of base and the resulting novel mixture of 2- and 3-tetraacetoglycos-2-yl-2,3- bis - demethyl thiocolchicines and 2 - tetraacetoglucos - 2 - yl - 1,2 - bis - demethyl thiocolchicine obtained is sequentially treated with diazomethane and base. Pharmaceutical preparations and horticultural and agricultural preparations (for modifying mitosis and creating polyploids) contain (I) as active ingredient.
