Sulphur dioxide.-A process for the removal and recovery of sulphur dioxide from gases which have been freed from sulphuretted hydrogen and ammonia consists in washing the gases with a cold previously-boiled solution of alkali sulphite, and subsequently heating the resulting solution, preferably in multiple evaporators.
