1345557 Hydrazides CIBA-GEIGY AG 11 Aug 1971 [12 Aug 1970] 37781/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] The invention comprises compounds of the formula where X is a direct bond or alkylene of 1-8 carbon atoms, phenylene or naphthylene, n is 0 or 1, and each ring A may be substituted by alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, further hydroxy, alkoxy, acyloxy, acylamino or halogen. The compounds may be prepared by reacting 2 mols. of a salicylic acid hydrazide which is optionally substituted in the benzene nucleus with one mol. of a compound of the formula Y-CO-(-X-CO-) n -Y, where Y is chlorine or OR where R is an organic radical, by reacting one mol. of a compound of the formula with one mol. of a salicylic acid chloride which is optionally substituted in the benzene nucleus, or by reacting one mol. of a compound of the formula H 2 N-NH-CO-(-X-CO-)- n NHNH 2 with two mols. of a salicylic acid chloride which is optionally substituted in the benzene nucleus.
