Abstract

1345521 Tractor coupling INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO OF GREAT BRITAIN Ltd 26 April 1971 [19 May 1970] 24099/70 Heading A1P Frame 4, pivotally mounted at points A and A' to the underside of a tractor is pivotally connected at points B and B' to a pair of slotted links 11. Pins 36 at the end of lift arm 12 can slide along the lengths of slots 24 in links 11. Pins 36 and link 11 lift frame 4 on raising lift arms 12. Latches 28, 29, situated at the rear end of arms 13, 14 serve to engage with catch 30 in order to lock frame 4 in a horizontal position. Control rod 31, operable from the drivers seat 32, serves to rotate latches 28, 29 free. of catch 30 in order to lower frame 4. Link 40, connected to arm 12, lowers and raises link 41 of a three link system when frame 4 is locked in a horizontal position. A traction coupling member may be mounted on pivot 2 on forward cross member 15 allowing for pivotal movement of the member in the plane of frame 4. Three upstanding projections 1, 9, 10 on rear cross member 16 engage with the traction coupling, thus preventing movement of the member in the plane of frame 4 unless the member is lifted above the projections. The projection 1, having an arcuate surface 35 against which an eye member of a piece of equipment may be engaged, provides for frame 4 to be used as a drag-hook. The traction coupling member consists of a forward section, defining a chamfered hole for pivotal movement on projection 2. Two side plates join the forward section to a cross piece to which a clevis consisting of two limbs is bolted. The limbs have holes for receiving a retaining pin in order to connect the coupling member to the clevis on the trailer draw bar. The cross piece and links may be mutually attached in several ways to provide a variety of clevis and rearward cross member 15 positions. The above arrangement provides for rapid easy conversion between draw-bar and draghook systems in the coupling linkage.
