Abstract
1345518 Fertilizer containing a phosphonate sequestrant; sequestering ALBRIGHT & WILSON Ltd 19 April 1971 [20 Feb 1970] 8246/70 Headings C1C and C1B [Also in Divisions C2 C7 and C5] Metal ions, especially calcium ions, in aqueous systems are sequestered by adding to the systems a product characterized by an X-ray powder spectrum which exhibits peaks at the following wavelengths in order of decreasing intensity measured by CuKα radiation in Angstroms to +0À05 Angstroms: 2À6, 5À4, 12À5, 4À7, 5À15, 6À2, 2À68, 2À95, which products are obtained by partially dehydrating a tetra-alkali metal salt of 1-hydroxyethane-1,1-diphosphonic acid (ADPA) (see Division C2), or a mixture of the above product with condensed phosphates or other products of heating of ADPA salts, or a detergent composition comprising the above product or mixture together with a surfactant. The surfactant may be anionic, e.g. an alkali metal C 6-25 alkyl sulphate or C 6-25 alkyl benzene sulphonate or an alkali metal fatty acid taurate or isothionate, or non-ionic, e.g. an ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide condensate of a fatty acid, fatty alcohol, alkylphenol or a glyceryl or sorbitan fatty ester. The detergent compositions may also contain foaming agents, enzymes, brighteners, hydrotropes, bleaches perfumes, dispersants, inert diluents, phase stabilizers and other conventional ingredients. A liquid fertilizer composition comprises watersoluble compounds of phosphorus, nitrogen, potassium and trace elements in aqueous solution in the presence as sequestrant of a product, mixture or composition as set out above.
